Just like any relationship we encounter in our day to day lives, we also develop thoughts, feelings and opinions about the places where we live. Collectively, the writers of this blog have developed an intimate relationship with Austin, Texas. As such, we’re able to speak authoritatively about the events, random occurrences and idiosyncrasies that help “keep Austin weird.” Join us as we dissect the love/hate relationship we’ve developed with our home. And please—please—add to our conversation. While we know a good bit about our city, we warmly welcome contributions and viewpoints that we may have overlooked.

hi im a junior in high school
and ive ALWAYS wanted to live up in austin
is it ridiculously expensive to live up there?
Hey Jenny, thanks for checking out our blog!
Austin’s cost kind of depends on where you’re coming from. For me, it wasn’t a huge change – I grew up in San Antonio, and I don’t feel like I pay that much more for food. It’s hard to say in terms of rent and such, because I was living with my parents so I don’t really know how to compare. I live alone, which definitely makes it more expensive. But if you live with a roommate or two, rent is totally doable. Ultimately, I feel like most things in Austin are reasonably priced, apart from if you want to buy a house up here. Then again, I was in Germany last semester, so EVERYTHING seems sooo much cheaper now haha. Hope that helped a little!
that definitley helped. i lived in san antonio too! then moved up one town away to boerne. im pretty sure im gonna have a roomate, so im hoping rent is doable. thanks for the information!
